A platinum and three gold records for the New Bartók Series

September 23rd, 2010

The platinum and gold records were handed over by the managing director of Hungaroton, Máté Hollós to the artists present at the end of the rehearsal of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra at the Palace of Arts on September 22nd. The conductor Zoltán Kocsis, the Hungarian National Philharmonic, the chorus master Dénes Szabó, the violinist Barnabás Kelemen and the conductor Iván Fischer have all contributed to the remarkable success of the last few years.

The Bartók New Series is an unprecedented success of classical music editions not only in artistic sense but also in terms of sale figures. The first disc of the series containing The Wooden Prince and the Symphonic Poem Kossuth has already reached the 1.500-copy-limit of gold record and been raised to the rank of platinum record by surpassing the 3.000 copies sold.
The SACD compiled from the one-time Philips–Hungaroton recording of Rhapsody and Scherzo and the brand-new recording of the juveline Violin Concerto (op. posth.) comprises, in addition, the Suite No. 2, Romanian Dance, Romanian Folk Dances and Dance Suite and the Twenty-Seven Choruses for children’s and female voices and has reached the sales level of 1.500 for the gold record.
It fits into the success sequence of the series and the prizes awarded to it abroad so far, that the latest released SACD, on which the Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, Divertimento and Hungarian Sketches can be heard, became the recording of the month in the September issue of the BBC Music Magazine.
